Classes in Cagayan suspended Tuesday as ‘Ferdie’ lashes northern Luzon

TUGUEGARAO CITY — Classes from pre-school to senior high school are suspended in Cagayan province on Tuesday due to heavy rains brought by tropical storm “Ferdie”.

Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba ordered the suspension as a precautionary measure as rivers and low lying areas in Cagayan have accumulated flood waters brought about by the rains dumped by the tropical storm.

Mamba said the suspension of classes in both public and private schools aims to keep students safe from the storm.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) placed northern Cagayan and the Babuyan Group of Islands at signal no. 2, with 61-120 kph winds expected in 24 hours.

These areas will have a wave height of 4.1-14.0 meters and possible storm surges in their coastal areas. PNA/
