CITY POLICE COORDINATES WITH VILLAGE OFFICIALS IN PREPARATION FOR MAY ELECTIONS

SANTIAGO CITY, Isabela — The Santiago City Police Office (SCPO) has started coordinating with village officials in relation to the upcoming national and local election to ensure peaceful and orderly polls.

P/CI Genato Birung, police community relations branch chief, said the village officials and watchmen have a great contribution in the maintenance of orderly and peaceful elections.

Birung said they have started to visit several barangays in the city and meet the officials and barangay tanod to inform their role as partners of the police in ensuring the peaceful conduct of elections.

Santiago City has a history of election-related violence and the police want to ensure peaceful elections in the city with the help of village officials.

“We started to meet village officials including the barangay tanod in each barangay and inform them of their important role to ensure a peaceful and orderly elections in the city,” Birung said.

He said the police want to thwart any crime by lawless elements during the election period which will start on January 10 and end June 8, 2016. PNA / northboundasia.com
