City Council approves closure of some roads during Panagbenga 2017

BAGUIO CITY – Several thoroughfares in Baguio City will be closed during the month-long 22nd Baguio Flower Festival – Panagbenga 2017 starting on February 1 until March 5.

The Baguio City Council approved the closure of South Drive from Teachers Camp on February 1 for the opening parade which will traverse through Upper Session Road, Lower Session Road, Magsaysay Avenue and back to Harrison Road.

The Opening Parade and Street Dancing elimination parade route will be closed to vehicular traffic from 1 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The Burnham Lake Drive and Juan Luna Drive will also be closed for the duration of the Baguio Blooms Exposition and Exhibition from February 1 to March 5.

Earlier, one lane of the Burnham Lake Drive was closed to pave the way for the landscapers to install their respective garden designs in preparation for the opening day on February 1.

The council approved the use of the Melvin Jones Football Field on February 12 for the annual conduct of the “Handog ng Panagbenga sa Pamilya Baguio” to include the Panagbenga kite-flying challenge; “Let A Thousand Flowers Bloom”, a banner painting activity; a variety show; and other family-oriented activities.

The painted banners will be paraded on February 25, to lead the Grand Street Dancing Parade and on February 26, the Grand Floral Floats Parade.

Melvin Jones Football Field will also be used to park the Floral Floats for the public to view.

On February 25, South Drive from Military Cut-off Rotunda to Lower Session Road, Magsaysay Avenue and Harrison Road will be closed to vehicular traffic from 1 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the Grand Street Dancing Parade.

On February 26, Upper Session Road from Military Cut-off up to Lower Session Road and Harrison Road will be closed from 1 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the Grand Floral Float Parade.

The whole stretch and both lanes of Lower Session Road from the rotunda down to Malcolm Square, will be closed from February 27 to March 5 for the “Session Road in Bloom.”

The “Pony Boys Day” at the Wright Park on March 4, was also approved.

The council approved the use of the Baguio Athletic Bowl for the closing, awarding ceremonies of the 22nd Baguio Flower Festival and the grand fireworks display on March 5. Jojo Lamaria/PNA-northboundasia.com
