CAUAYAN CITY, Isabela — The Cauayan City Agriculture Office is set to distribute free rice and corn seeds to marginalized farmers in the city next week.
City agriculturist Rufino Arcega said his office is awaiting the submission of masterlist of marginalized farmers who were not able to avail of free rice and corn seeds last cropping season as they will be the priority this cropping season.
Arcega said there are more than 2,000 bags of rice seeds and 700 bags of corn seeds ready for distribution next week.
He said the free rice and corn seeds subsidy is part of the program of the city government of helping the marginalized farmers affected by El Nino.
In the last few months, a number of rice and corn farmers were greatly affected by drought, prompting the city government to help them through provision of planting materials as initial subsidy. PNA/northboundasia.com
