LAOAG CITY — At least 126 families who are less fortunate were given noche buena packages during a gift giving of the Ilocos Norte government.

Covering the 21 towns and two cities of the province, a team from the Ilocos Norte’s Capitol Express acted like Santa Claus as they distributed grocery items during the 5-day Christmas caravan. The beneficiaries were identified by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office who were included in the list of Millennium Development Goals (MDG) families. The MDG master list of the province is apart from the national government’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or 4Ps currently being assisted by the national government.

According to Edwin Cariño, head of the Special Projects Office, the number of beneficiaries for the Noche Buena packages mostly from the remote and flood-prone villages of Dingras town is fewer this year as some members had been included in the 4Ps. The gift items include a family-pack toothpaste, cooking oil, soap, shampoo, ham and whole piece dressed chicken.

During the culmination of the distribution in Pasuquin town, the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the provincial government for receiving the unexpected blessing which they said will go a long way to stretch their budget for the Christmas celebration. PNA/
