CEBU’S DANCING INMATES FEAST ON ‘LECHON’, ALLOWED FAMILY VISITS FOR CHRISTMAS

CEBU CITY — Cebu’s famous dancing inmates at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) Thursday feasted on 75 of Cebu’s equally famous “lechon” or roasted whole pigs as part of their Christmas celebration.

Aside from the rare Christmas treat, they were also allowed to spend Christmas and New Year with their families, said Cebu Capitol consultant on jail matters Marco Toral.

Toral said the inmates will be given the privilege to be with their families for four days during Christmas and two days for the New Year celebration.

For the Christmas celebration, Toral said they will allow the families of the inmates to visit the jail starting today until Dec. 27.

Toral said the immediate families of the inmates may stay overnight for two nights – today and on Christmas Day.

Thursday and weekends are the scheduled visiting days for the inmates.

Toral said they included Friday, which falls on Dec. 25, in the visiting days.

For the New Year celebration, the families of the inmates may also come to CPDRC on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

Toral said the families may spend a night inside the jail facility on Dec. 31.

CPDRC deployed 35 security guards to augment the 25 jail guards assigned in the facility for the holiday visiting dates.

Toral said Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III approved the visiting plan for inmates’ families for the holidays. PNA/northboundasia.com
