Cavite health officer shot dead, driver wounded in ambush

TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite — Cavite provincial health officer, Dr. George Repique Jr., was shot dead and his driver wounded when ambushed by still unidentified riding-in-tandem assailants on Tuesday evening near the city college in Barangay Luciano here.

Superintendent Janet Arinabo, chief of Cavite police public information office, said the ambuscade happened around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday as the government physician and his driver were on their way home.

Arinabo said the victims were rushed by bystanders and hospital workers to this city’s General Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Hospital (GEAMH) where Repique’s office is also located.

Repique sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died while undergoing treatment in the hospital while Bacasa was wounded on his thigh.

According to police investigation, the victims were on board a Hyundai Elantra vehicle (plate number SJS 117) when the riding-in-tandem suspects peppered their vehicle with bullets.

Bystanders said the assailants’ motorcycle had no plate number when spotted fleeing from the crime scene near the Trece Martires College in Barangay Luciano.

Cavite provincial police director Arthur Bisnar immediately called for a closed-door meeting and ordered a full investigation of the incident.

Trece Martires City chief of police Hegbert Tibayan is spearheading the probe to determine the motive and possible leads in the killing.

Scene of the crime operatives (SOCO) are processing the crime scene in cooperation with the city police force and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) investigating the case.

As of press time, investigators are looking for possible leads and evidence through the CCTV footage at the vicinity of the crime site.
