CARDINAL TAGLE’S FIRST COUSIN DIES OF HEART ATTACK WHILE DRIVING IN DAGUPAN

DAGUPAN CITY — A first cousin of Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle died Tuesday night when he suffered a heart attack while he was driving his car along the national highway in Barangay Bonuan Binloc here, the Dagupan police said.

The victim, Manuel “Butch” Gutierrez, 54, of Barangay Pantal, was related to the mother of Cardinal Tagle who is from Dagupan City.

The police said Gutierrez, a former official in the administration of then Dagupan City Mayor Benjamin Lim, was reportedly accompanied in the car by one Maryann Carino, 39, a former maid, who was hurt in the foot when the car they were riding rammed an electric post.

The police theorized that because of the heart attack suffered by Gutierrez, he failed to control the wheels that caused the car to crash into the electric post. The wife of the victim confirmed that Gutierrez had a heart problem.

Gutierrez, a resident of Barangay Pantal, Dagupan City, was former chief of the Task Force Bantay Ilog and once headed the city’s anti-littering unit under the Lim administration.

The police said that Gutierrez was unhurt as the car’s air bag appeared to have not malfunctioned during the crash. PNA/northboundasia.com
