Camp Aguinaldo to be open to private motorists for limited time frame during Yuletide Season

MANILA — Private motorists, for a limited time frame during the Christmas Season, can pass through the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) headquarters in Camp Aquinaldo, Quezon City when heading to C-5 Road and Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) and vice versa.

This was disclosed on Thursday by AFP public affairs office chief Col. Edgard Arevalo, who said that this is one of the measures which can help in reducing heavy traffic this Yuletide Season.

“We are hopeful that this would really help our (people) in a good way, especially those coming from C-5 and EDSA as they could easily traverse these two major thoroughfares in ease and comfort. We just would like to appeal to the private motorists who would be intending to avail of this privilege or this opportunity to use the thoroughfares of our camp that they should observe proper rules and regulations, the traffic rules and regulations inside camp and the discipline that we have to observe inside camp,” he added.

As this develops, AFP GHQ Headquarters Support Command chief-of-staff for operations Lt. Col. Enriquito Deocadez said the Camp Aguinaldo roadways will remain open to private vehicles until Jan. 15.

He added that they still have no idea when they will open the base to private vehicular traffic as this will be decided by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA)

Deocadez also said that the decision to allow public vehicles to pass through the military facility depends also on the MMDA.

He also clarified that Camp Aguinaldo will be open only during the peak morning hours from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.

These vehicles will also not be allowed to stop as they are allowed entry for the purpose of access only.

With this initiative, additional security will be deployed, Deocadez said. Priam Nepomuceno/
