Cagayan governor appeals for assistance in wake of ‘Lawin’ devastation

TUGUEGARAO CITY — Cagayan Governor Manuel Màmba has called on the national government for assistance in the wake of the devastation caused by Typhoon Lawin.

In an interview with the Philippines News Agency (PNA), Mamba expressed optimism that the national government would immediately send assistance to the province.

Cagayan bore the brunt of ‘Lawin’, whose 225 kph winds lashed at the province for almost 10 hours, leaving it in total devastation.

Mamba said they have yet to receive reports from the field after the typhoon downed communication lines. Power has also been cut in the province after ‘Lawin’ toppled electric posts and power transformers. Many roads have been rendered impassable, isolating most areas, he said.

According to the governor, the hardest-hit areas include Penàblanca, Tuguegarao, Solana, Iguig, Amulung, Tuao, Sto Nino, Rizal, Alcala.
