Cagayan classes suspended over typhoon ‘Ferdie’

TUGUEGARAO CITY — Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba has suspended classes from pre-school to senior high school in both private and public schools on Tuesday (Sept. 13) due to the expected heavy rains and winds to be brought by typhoon “Ferdie” in the northern part of the province.

Mamba advised villagers to go to evacuation sites or higher grounds as the 500-km diameter of the typhoon is expected to pound northern Cagayan with moderate to heavy rains.

The provincial disaster risk-reduction management council was also reactivated and rescue teams were deployed. Relief assistance teams were also placed on standby at the disaster action center, he added.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reports said the eye of the typhoon was recorded 445-km east of Calayan, Cagayan with 215 kph sustained winds and 250 kph gustiness. Villamor Visaya Jr/PNA/
