Bulacan’s first ice attraction opens in Marilao

MARILAO,Bulacan, Nov. 7 (PNA) — A winter Christmas in a tropical town.

It may not appear in the weather bulletin, but it’s now raining “snow” here.

Mall goers will now have the opportunity to experience a real “White Christmas” as SM City Marilao recreated the magical train ride to the North Pole with the “Polar Express Train”.

Mall manager Bernadette D. Velasco said the mall’s Christmas centerpiece is inspired by the 1985 classic book of Chris Van Allsburg and Warner Bros. hit movie, “The Polar Express”.

“We wanted children and adults alike to believe in the magic of Christmas. This led us to the idea of recreating the family favorite Polar Express Train with Ice Attraction. With this, we hope that families will enjoy and find Christmas in SM City Marilao,” Velasco said.

Gladiz May Latiza, public relations officer of SM City Marilao, said the Polar Express Train features a magical “Snow Playground” shipped from Italy.

“It is a 12 x 4 meter or 48 square meter mobile ice attraction that allows guests to experience winter activities such as snowball making and snowman building,” Latiza said.

Because “Snow Playground” uses highly sophisticated snow-making machine that freezes potable water for as low as -10 to -15 degrees Celsius while rapidly turning frozen water into small ice crystals or snowflakes, it allows customers to interact with simulated snow at below 0 to 3 degree Celsius temperature, Latiza added.

She said that children and adults alike will definitely enjoy this unique experience as the playground is filled with colorful pails, shovels, and toys to create fun shapes for building snow figures.

“Excitement are reflected in children’s faces as they waited to board on the train. Guests donned in multiple layers of clothing, boots, fur-lines, and fleece pullover while others wear thick jacket, gloves, and knee high socks for their snow day fun,” Latiza describes the mood of mall goers during its launching Friday.

A real life Santa Claus signaled the opening of Snow Playground and greeted the first wave of children aboard while “The Voice Kids” Champion Ehla Mae Nympha sung Christmas carols.

Storyland’s E-Puff Train likewise took shoppers to a fun ride around the mall.

From the east entrance of SM City Marilao, the trains stop at the Polar Express to behold the magic of North Pole.

With the unveiling of the Christmas Centerpiece, SM City Marilao will also stir up festive happenings on the next few weeks with dazzling entertainment, spectacular fireworks, holiday performances, and special Christmas activities that will surely thrill shoppers, young and old, Latiza said.

Apart from the launching of the winterland centerpiece, gift giving to the underprivileged children and launching of Bears of Joy also highlighted the program.

SM encourages shoppers to put a smile on children’s faces by purchasing the SM Cares Bears of joy for only PHP200.

Shoppers get to keep one bear and donate another while proceeds together with the bears will be donated to charitable institutions nationwide.

Polar Express Train will remain open until January 10, 2016.

Snow Playground entrance fee is inclusive of rubber boots in various kiddie and adult sizes.

Before hopping aboard, guests below four years old must be accompanied by an adult and are encouraged to bring their own jackets/ sweaters, legwarmers and gloves. PNA
