MANILA — A Bureau of Customs (BOC) – Port of Davao employee allegedly involved in an anomalous transaction has been relieved of his post after a copy of the CCTV that captured the illegal act has gone viral on the Internet on Wednesday.
In a statement, the BOC said the employee from the Port Operations Division had been temporarily relieved until the investigation was completed.
An amateur video showing an employee supposedly collecting a bribe went viral on social media. The employee is assigned at the BOC – Port of Davao.
With this, Lawyer Erastus Sandino Austria, district collector of the Port of Davao, has summoned the employee, along with his immediate superior, to give their side and shed light on the incident.
Both of them were not identified pending results of investigation, but were instructed to submit a written explanation within 24 hours.
Austria said the employee from the Port Operations Division had been temporarily relieved until the investigation was completed.
The BOC urged the complainant to submit a detailed narration of what really transpired to help it determine the facts for use in the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, a fact-finding committee composed of the Chief of the Administration Division, Chief of the CIIS (Customs Intelligence) and District Commander of ESS-CPD (Customs Police) was also created to find out what really transpired in the said video.
The committee was ordered to submit its report within 72 hours.
A memorandum was also issued asking the Director of the CIIS Investigation Division to conduct an impartial investigation on the matter. FERDINAND PATINIO/PNA – northboundasia.com
