MANILA — The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) will conduct an investigation to determine how a number of Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) cardholders lost money in their accounts overnight.
“We’ll investigate. For now, BPI assures us this is not a hack and problem will be fixed today and no one will lose money,” BSP Deputy Governor Nestor Espenilla Jr. said in a text message Wednesday morning.
The BSP official said BPI has “already issued a statement explaining situation and promising to fix today. We’ll investigate as soon as dust settles and customers are made whole.”
The BPI website is currently not accessible.
The bank will hold a press briefing in Makati City at around 11a.m. Wednesday to explain the situation. JSV/PNA-northboundasia.com
