BIR-Laoag City chief: No extension of tax payment deadline

LAOAG CITY — Acting District Revenue Officer Jose Edimar Jaen of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR)-Laoag City on Monday said there will no extension of the tax payment deadline which is today, Monday, and that starting Tuesday, filing shall automatically incur a 20-percent interest and 25-percent surcharge.

Some Ilocano taxpayers were observed lining up at the BIR here to beat the tax filing deadline of 5 p.m. today, April 17.

By operations of law, Jaen said the deadline for filing income tax returns (ITR) on April 15, which falls on Black Saturday has been moved on Monday, April 17.

To avoid late filing charges, Jaen called on local taxpayers here to settle their obligations.

For this year, the BIR expects a full-year tax collection target of PHP 1.829 trillion to fund massive infrastructure projects under the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.

“It’s a long day for the BIR today and we are urging all income earners to file their taxes correctly and promptly,” said Jaen, citing he has directed the city and municipal revenue offices here to accommodate all tax filers today. PNA-northboundasia.com
