CAMP BGEN OSCAR M. FLORENDO, La Union — A bike-for-a-cause dubbed as “PRO1 BIKERS” (Bantay ng Inang Komunidad laban sa KrimEn laging Kaagapay at Ramdam ng Sambayanan) has been launched as a regular physical fitness drive for policemen of Region 1.
PRO 1 stands for Police Regional Office 1 based at Camp Oscar M. Florendo in San Fernando City, La Union.
Launched last Nov. 28 by Chief Supt. Ericson Velasquez, police regional director, the project is designed to further encourage camaraderie and partnership of the police and the community in Region 1, especially in the preservation of peace and order.
Velasquez said the project not only aims to promote outdoor adventure and healthy lifestyle among policemen and their civilian counterparts but is also intended to generate funds for the upgrading of the PRO 1 chapel.
“Apart from being a usual friendly biking exercise, this activity also serves as an opportunity for the bike enthusiasts to perk up their sport and to reinvigorate friendship. This is a time to relax the minds and body aside from the raising of fund for a purpose,” Velasquez added.
In the initial run participated in by some 300 bikers, a registration fee of PhP300 was paid by each participant, inclusive of jersey T-shirt and a boodle fight (breakfast).
The youngest participant was only 13 and the oldest was 76. PNA
