‘Big time’ pusher nabbed in Korondal City drug bust

GENERAL SANTOS CITY — Anti-drug operatives arrested a suspected “big time” drug pusher in a buy-bust operation near a private university in Koronadal City on Sunday afternoon.

Supt. Roland Allan Penaverde, Koronadal City police chief, identified the suspect as Alex Bacas alias Bobong, a resident of Casa Subdivision in Barangay Zone 3.

He said they nabbed the suspect after selling a sachet of suspected metamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu worth P500 to a police officer who acted as a buyer.

The transaction was made in a boarding house in Block 5, Maranon Village in the same barangay, he said.

The area is within a row of boarding houses hosting students of the nearby Notre Dame of Marbel University and several other local colleges.

Seized from Bacas were 10 heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu with an estimated value of P120,000, P500 marked bill used in the buy-bust, and various drug paraphernalia.

The illegal drug operation was witnessed by barangay officials and local media workers.

Penaverde tagged Bacas as alleged leader of the “Bacas drug group,” which reportedly operate in the city and other municipalities in South Cotabato province.

“The group is engaged in big time operations based on the illegal drugs recovered from the suspect,” he said.

The police official said the suspect, who is currently detained at the Koronadal City police station lock up, would be charged for violation of sections 5 and 11 or selling and possession of dangerous drugs, under Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002.
