BCPO, committee ready for Holy Week

BAGUIO CITY –- Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) Officer-in-Charge (OIC) PSSupt George Daskeo, chairman of Summer Vacation (SumVac) 2016 Committee on Communications, Peace, Security and Traffic Assistance, has convened the committee and finalized the areas of responsibilities of the different communication – civic action groups and volunteer groups in preparation for the Lent Season.

Daskeo on Monday, March 21 said he is anticipating thousands of local and foreign tourists to travel to Baguio City to observe the Holy Week.

The Baguio City police chief assured that the committee with its volunteer groups, is ready for the Lent rush.

Daskeo said that with limited resources, the different communication – civic action groups and volunteers will be deployed in the strategic areas in the city to assist motorists and visitors during the Holy Week.

Medical teams will also be deployed in the strategic areas to respond to cases of emergency.

The strategic areas will include the three four major highways in and out of Baguio City – Kennon Road,BPalispis Highway (Marcos Highway), Quirino Highway (Baguio – Naguilian Rd) and the Halsema Highway (Baguio – Bontoc Rd) – and the parks frequented by the tourists, Daskeo added.

Daskeo said they will closely monitor the newly established “Spiritual Trail” or the 15 Stations of the Cross at the Dominican Hill which is open to the public until March 27, Easter Sunday.

Among the religious activities lined up include the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and evening mass at the Church of Our Lady of Atonement (Baguio Cathedral), Holy Thursday Communion at the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP) on March 24, Maundy Thursday; the Stations of the Cross, Divine Mercy Novena, Seven Last Words, celebration of the Lord’s Passion and the Procession of the Santo Entierro (Holy Burial) at the Baguio Cathedral on March 25, Good Friday; an Easter Vigil at the Baguio Cathedral on March 26, Black Saturday at 6 P.M.

Early in the morning of March 27, Easter Sunday, the “Salubong”, assembly for the Blessed Mother, assembly for the Risen Christ and encuantro (meeting), will be held at the Baguio Cathedral. PNA / northboundasia.com
