Bangui to develop water sports tourism

LAOAG CITY — The municipal government of Bangui is all set to venture into water sports tourism development with its five-hectare Danao Lake as natural capital.

Eyed as a bicentennial project of Bangui town, mayor Fidel Cimatu said the project is meant to complement the influx of tourists visiting the Bangui windmills and offer an alternative for them to stay and have fun.

Through its Danao Lake water sports development project located in Barangay Manayon, the Bangui municipal government plans to partner with the Development Bank of the Philippines to finance the project pegged at approximately PHP100 million.

Cimatu said more and more investors are coming to Bangui so it is time for the municipal government to become more entrepreneurial.

“We would like to develop the lake as a water sports destination similar to what is being offered in Camarines Sur. Something that is not present in nearby Burgos or Pagudpud,” said Cimatu.

“The bank has a wealth of experience in helping other local government units and private entrepreneurs. So, that is what we can offer to them—to share the experiences of our customers and our internal skills in assessing their projects,” said Cecilia Borromeo, President and Chief Executive Officer of the DBP, who recently visited Bangui town after the opening of its full service bank here.

Once the project is assessed by the DBP, Cimatu said the town’s bicentennial project will commence.

Since the establishment of windmills at the Bangui Bay in 2005, tourism development has also started to flourish in this site with mushrooming of souvenir shops and restaurants that cater to the increasing number of tourists here.

The local government unit is optimistic that with more tourism development projects, more employment will be generated and local livelihood will get a boost. PNA-northboundasia.com
