Baguio mayor mulls reviving ‘Oplan Magdalena’

BAGUIO CITY –- Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan is contemplating on bringing back Oplan “Magdalena” to rid Baguio City of the increasing number individuals engaged in prostitution.

Domogan on Thursday, November 3, said the increasing number of a females engaging in the business has become a part of the increasing number of tourists during the “ber” months.

The tourist months start in September and may extend through “SumVac” 2017 or until April next year.

Citing a report from the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), most of these females offer prospective clients a massage and an “extra service” for a fee.

The report indicated that some female cigarette vendors act as pimps for females in the business and offer “services” for a fee.

Oplan “Magdalena” was implemented a few years back to save young girls from prostitution.

In the recent past, the females engaged in prostitution were tagged as “Magsaysay Girls”, being perennial figures along Magsaysay Avenue.

Domogan said the BCPO and the City Health Services Office (CHSO) are monitoring the activities of establishments in the area.

Oplan “Magdalena” may be reinforced depending on the recommendations of the said offices, Domogan said. Jojo Lamaria/
