BAGUIO CITY  —  Baguio City is ready to handle the volume of garbage that may come with the number of visitors coming in to the city due to several conferences.

General Services Officer (GSO) Romeo Concio said the acquisition of eight additional dump trucks will be enough to handle the expected increase in garbage this month.

Concio said two more trash compactors are on stand-by.

The trucks cost PHP29.7 million at PHP3.7 million each and the two compactors worth PHP15.9 million at PHP7.9 million per unit.

Concio said the city will purchase 25 replacement dump trucks to strengthen its waste collection system.Baguio City expects a surge of visitors this month due to the Philippine Mine Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA) convention, the Fil-Am Golf Tournament and the expected arrival of tourists wanting to escape the traffic gridlock in Metro Manila for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.

Concio added that the city is ready to deploy more street sweepers and garbage collectors.

The GSO plans to buy two water tankers early next year that can be converted into dump trucks.

“Hopefully, the water tankers can be used to flush out sludge in the Central Business District in time for the 21st Baguio Flower Festival – Panagbenga 2016 celebrations,” Concio said. PNA
