BAGUIO CITY – Baguio Country Club (BCC) general manager and Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio (HRAB) said the Baguio City Council approved HRAB request for a month-long Christmas bazaar beginning on Dec. 1.
De Leon said the Christmas bazaar would beef up funds for the visit of some 24 Miss Universe Pageant candidates scheduled on Jan. 18.
The bazaar will be staged at the Melvin Jones Football Field which is seen as the local government unit’s (LGU) counterpart as a co-sponsor.
The visit of 24 Miss Universe Pageant candidates in Baguio City with reigning Miss Universe 2016 Pia Wurtzbach is a once-in-a-lifetime event, de Leon said.
HRAB already submitted the required detailed project proposal to the local government for this bazaar, to include an understanding that the cleanliness and orderliness within the football grounds during the duration of the event, will be maintained.
De Leon said the bazaar would operate in the day time until 9 p.m. when the night market takes over along Harrison Road.
Earlier, de Leon and Ramon Cabrera, HRAB treasurer, signed the contract with the Miss Universe Pageant organizers in Manila.
HRAB was able to solicit Php 7 million as an initial payment required to be able to host the Miss Universe Pageant candidates in Baguio City.
De Leon said an initial computed expense was pegged at Php 15 million excluding accommodations of the candidates, organizers and others involved in the pageant.
The council unanimously approved the conduct of the HRAB Christmas bazaar at the Melvin Jones based on the recommendation and endorsement of Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan. PNA-northboundasia.com
