‘AVA’ FESTIVAL KICKS OFF TUBA’S 104TH FOUNDING ANNIVERSARY

TUBA, BENGUET — The Ava Festival of the municipality of Tuba in Benguet will usher its 104th foundation anniversary on December 1 with the theme, “Celebrating Our Oneness and Sustaining Our Progress”.

The Ava Festival was established pursuant to Municipal Ordinance 235 s 2014 stating that the town’s festival in December will be named after one of its majoragricultural products, the “ava” (gabi or taro).

“Ava” plays a significant role in the lives and culture of the people of Tuba and the whole province.

It is served as staple food from simple occasion to festivities and cultural practices and rites like “tayao” (canao).

The festival, which will gather people from 13 barangays, will commence with a thanksgiving mass and the agro-industrial fair on December 1 at the municipal grounds.

Other activities include the 2nd Ava Festival street dancing competition on December 2; 1st Tuba Cooperative Convention; Gabi Viand Ibaloi Style Cooking Contest and the Gabi Cake Baking Contest on December 3; the Youth Congress and Ava Poster Making Contest on December 6; Farmer’s Congress on December 7; sports activities on December 8; Barangay Day, Blood Letting and Ava Sportsfest Awarding on December 9.
