Armed encounter with cops in Laguna left 3 suspected carnappers dead

SANTA ROSA CITY, Laguna — Three suspected carnappers were killed in an armed encounter with the city’ police force on Wednesday along Dictado Road, Tagapo Village here.

Police Superintendent Giovani Martinez, chief, Santa Rosa City police in his report to Police Senior Superintendent Joel C. Pernito, acting provincial director, said at about 1:29 a.m. today, a suspicious Toyota Altis with plate number EBE-962 was spotted by cops manning the ‘Oplan Sita’ near a Caltex gasoline station at Tagapo National Road.

However, when flagged down, the vehicle sped up towards Balibago Village resulting to a chase by the Mobile Patrol Unit 153 while calling for a dragnet operation at the police base.

Incidentally, the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) personnel who were conducting a checkpoint in front of Sinai Hospital along Tagapo National Highway spotted the fleeing vehicle that immediately turned right towards Dictado Road where it was cornered by the Mobile Patrol Unit 153.

An exchange of gun fire ensued when two persons alighted from the vehicle and fired their guns at the police vehicle resulting to the death of the suspects while the other one was pronounced dead on arrival (DOA) when brought to the nearby Santa Rosa Community Hospital by the responding Santa Rosa City Rescue team.

The scene of the crime operatives (SOCO) recovered at the scene a Cal. 45 Remington pistol with serial number 186251, a Cal. 38 revolver with serial number 837531, a Cal. 38 revolver without serial number, 21 pieces of suspected ‘shabu’ placed inside a color black coin purse recovered inside the coin box of the vehicle, a Toyota Altis car with plate number EBE-962, two fired cartridges of Cal.45 pistol , six fired cartridges of M-16 Rifle, five fired cartridges of 9mm pistol, eight fired cartridges of Cal. 38 revolver, four live ammunition of Cal. 38 revolver, three live ammunition Cal.45 pistol, two Philippine National Police (PNP) upper athletic uniforms and two PNP bull caps.

Also present at the scene was lawyer Oscar T Co, assistant city prosecutor of this city for onsite inquest.

Meanwhile, Police Chief Supt. Peter Dionisio, regional director, HPG 4A said the plate number of the vehicle was reportedly issued to a Hino vehicle upon their initial verification.
