SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – The relationship between President Aquino and former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chairman Francis Tolentino, including Liberal Party presidential bet Mar Roxas, is still intact.

Tolentino disclosed here Thursday night that despite his resignation from the Aquino Cabinet, he and the President still maintained close relationship by talking to each other almost weekly.

“We are the best of friends. This has nothing to do with politics. I still maintain close contacts with Secretary Mar,” Tolentino said.

Tolentino decided to run as independent senatorial candidate after he requested to be out from the LP line-up due to the controversy brought by the dance group ‘Playgirls.’

“I support the President and his ‘daang matuwid’ policy,” Tolentino said.

Meanwhile, Tolentino expressed gratitude to to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s endorsement for his senatorial bid and also with other local government executives including Mayor Pablo Ortega here.

“I thank Mayor Duterte because he is a respected leader in the Visayas and Mindanao. His endorsement will be a big boost for me,” he said after visiting the city hall here.
