Albanian military helicopter crash kills two

TIRANA — A helicopter of the Albanian Armed Forces crashed in the village of Grizhja, Shkodra region, north Albania, killing two crew members and injuring a third person onboard, Albanian Ministry of Defense confirmed on Wednesday.

“Two members of the crew, captain Florian Delija and lieutenant Donald Hoxha, died, while a third person, soldier Gerald Baramuca is injured and is being treated in Shkodra regional hospital,” the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, Major General Jeronim Bazo, said in a statement during a press conference after the accident.

According to an earlier press release from the Albanian Ministry of Defense, the helicopter, with board number 637 and the three people on board, started a scheduled training flight at 12:10 (1010 GMT) Wednesday.

The helicopter’s last contact with the Control and Reporting Centre in Rinas was at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday. Residents of the area helped to save the injured soldier. PNA/Xinhua/northboundasia.com
