Airforce man on bike falls in ravine, dies

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – A member of the Philippine Air Force 580th Aircraft Control and Warning Group (PAF-ACWG) based in Poro, Point died when he fell into a a 20-foot deep ravine after losing control of the bicycle he was riding in Barangay Puspus this city last Monday.

Superintendent Bryant Demot, city police chief, identified the victim as Technical Sergeant Israel Romano Gamboa, 42, married and resident of Barangay San Vicente, Zaragoza, Nueva Ecija.

Demot said that Gamboa was with other other personnel of PAF-ACWG on board their bicycles in the early morning to conduct a tree planting, an outreach program, in said village. While the bikers were negotiating a sharp curve, the victim lost control of his bicycle, hit a pile of earth and fell into the ravine.

The victim was rushed to the nearby Bethany Hospital here but was declared dead upon arrival by Dr. Flerida Mendoza, the attending physician.

The remains of Romano now lie in state at the St. Peter Funeral Parlor in Bauang town and will be transferred to their residence in Nueva Ecija. Erwin Beleo/
