DAGUPAN CITY — A total of 65,678 voters in Pangasinan lost their right to vote when they failed to go to their nearest Commission on Election (Comelec) offices to validate their biometric data till October 31 despite the long extension given them.
This was bared by Provincial Elections Supervisor Marino Salas who said the poll body gave these voters all the chances to validate their biometric data but they never appeared before the Comelec to comply with the requirement.
Others waited for the last minute to register and validate their biometric data and had to queue before the Comelec offices up to Oct. 31.
He said with the end of the registration and validation, the “no bio, no boto” as provinces in Republic Act No. 10367 will be in effect.
Pangasinan has the highest number of voters in Region 1 with incomplete biometric data, followed by Ilocos Norte, 17,764; La Union, 13,139; Ilocos Sur, 8,280.
At the same time, Salas said they are negotiating with two malls in Pangasinan to become voting centers but only for voters in the barangay where they are located.
These are the Robinson’s Place in Calasiao and the SM City Rosales in Carmen, Rosales, Pangasinan. PNA
