DAGUPAN CITY — Some 600,00 people from all walks of life flocked to the Bangusan Street Party, the penultimate activity of the Dagupan Bangus Festival 2016 along Jose de Venecia Expressway Extension here, on Saturday night.
Mayor Belen Fernandez, who led the activity, said the number was based on the estimate of the Dagupan Police headed by Supt. Christopher Abrahano, whose men provided security to the party.
Around 23,000 bangus (milkfish), pork, hot dogs and vegetables were grilled simultaneously in 500 steel grills put up by the participants. The revelers later ate the cooked food.
In 2009, the Bangusan Street Party was adjudged by the Department of Tourism (DOT) as the biggest street party in the entire country.
The threat of rain in the horizon did not dampen the enthusiasm of the revelers who stayed at the site, listening to songs by famous music artists till the wee hour in the morning.
The grills were bought by the participants from the Bangus Festival executive committee. Each grill was assigned five kilos of milkfish, charcoal, vinegar, soy sauce and apron.
The Bangusan Street Party was spiced by music concerts in six different stages that entertained the locals as well as their guests.
The simultaneous grilling of milkfish started with the lighting of the ceremonial grill by Mayor Fernandez and invited guests.
Famous celebrities like Arci Munoz, Ai-Ai delas Alas, Derick Monasterio, Bea Binene, Andrea Torres, Mike Tan, Kristoffer Martin, Rafael Rosell, Carla Abellana and Joyce Ching graced the event.
Popular rockbands like Parokya Ni Edgar, Bamboo, Rocksteddy, Spongecola, Silent Sanctuary, Abra, Mayonnaise, etc., entertained the party-goers.
Fernandez thanked the people as well as from other towns and cities for coming to the Bangusan Street Party and the Bangus Festival 2016.
The Bangus Festival did not not only boost local tourism and the economy of Dagupan but also served as a venue where friends, families and co-workers were given the opportunity to reunite and strengthen camaraderie while partaking on the world’s tastiest milkfish and enjoying superb entertainment.
