
MANILA — Five people, including a six-month-old girl, burned to death after a wayward tanker truck carrying fuel struck a residential area and exploded in Pinabacdao, Samar early Sunday morning.
Chief Insp. Maria Bella Rentuaya, Eastern Visayas Region Police Office spokesperson, reported that the incident took place at 2 a.m. at Barangay Lale, Pinabacdao town.
She said that the tanker truck was traveling along the descending portion of the national highway when it went out of control and slammed into a residential community before exploding, gutting three houses in the process.
In the ensuring fire, 20-year-old Michael Buenavides was burned to death along with his wife Maryjay, 18, and their six-month-old daughter.
Also killed were the truck’s two drivers who were trapped in the flaming vehicle.
Wounded was Armand Balundo, a resident of the same barangay.
