WELLINGTON — A 5.8-magnitude earthquake jolted New Zealand’s city of Christchurch on Sunday, the US Geological Survey said.
The quake, which occurred at 00:13 GMT, was centered 17 km east of the city at a relatively shallow depth of 8.23 km.
There were no immediate reports of serious damage.
The latest quake struck a week before the fifth anniversary of a 6.3-magnitude temblor in Christchurch on Feb. 22, 2011, which killed 185 in one of New Zealand’s deadliest disasters. PNA/Xinhua/northboundasia.com
