44 ARRESTED SO FAR FOR GUN BAN VIOLATION IN PANGASINAN

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO, La Union — Region 1 police director Chief Superintendent Ericson T. Velasquez announced Friday that 44 persons had been arrested and 30 assorted firearms were confiscated in the almost one-month implementation of election gun ban all over Region 1.

Velasquez, acting Regional Director of Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1), said the 44 persons arrested included 41 civilians, two government employees and one member of the Philippine National Police (PNP) who were carrying firearms, explosives and bladed weapons.

The PRO1 also seized 30 assorted firearms, nine of which are high powered and 21 are low powered; nine bladed weapons; and four grenades and explosives.

The OIC Police Regional Director said the violators were arrested through the serving of search warrants, checkpoint operations, and buy-bust and police response.

Based on records, 29 were arrested in Pangasinan and five each in La Union, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte.

Velasquez assured that the number of arrested violators is expected to rise some more with the intensified and relentless implementation of Lambat-Sibat, One-Time, Big-Time, One-Time Big-Bang and other continuous focused police operations in the region.

“We are expecting more violators and criminal elements to be arrested as we keep on increasing our efforts and persistent implementation of Lambat-Sibat and other PRO1’s best practices,” he said.

This, he added, seeks to ensure safe and secured elections in Region 1, adding that police are committed to enforce the gun ban until the end of election period on June 8. PNA/northboundasia.com
