4 firefighters injured in airport mishap identified

KALIBO, Aklan — The four firefighters who were injured in a mishap at the Kalibo International Airport Thursday morning have been identified by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines.

The victims were onboard an Oshkosh striker firetruck to respond to the Seair plane whose tire blew up while landing at the runway. The plane came from the Incheon, South Korea.

Report said the firetruck during the response time accidentally hit the irrigation canal of the airport causing accidents.

The modern fire truck which suffered heavy damaged costs at a market price of USD150,000.

The firefighters were Peter Dela Cruz, 45, driver of Poblacion, Kalibo; Servando Naka, 33, of Poblacion, Madalag; Judy Morales, 56, of Kalibo, and Glen Masigon.

Masigon was declared an outpatient while the three others are at the Dr. Rafael S. Tumbukon Memorial Hospital for medical treatment.

The incident caused the temporary shut down of operation of the KIA. It resumed operations though at midnight after both the plane and the firetruck had been removed at the runway. PNA/northboundasia.com
