LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — Four carnappers were arrested following a hot pursuit operation against them soon after they commandeered a Toyota High-Ace Grandia GL van at past 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 12 along the highway in Barangay Sobol in San Fabian, and shooting to death the driver’s companion.

A report of the San Fabian police said the van, colored silver metallic with Plate No. 891, was driven by Jeoffrey De Vera, 33, of Barangay Doyong, Calasiao, with Dennis Arenos, 41, of Barangay Malabago, of the same town, as his lone companion.

Those arrested on board the carnapped vehicle were Elmer Capurno, 33, of Barangay Gueguesangen, Sta. Barbara; Bonifacio Palaganas, 37, a car agent from Barangay San Miguel, Calasiao; Aurelio Patrick Melendez, 37, of San Miguel, Calasiao; and Senior Jail Officer 2 Victorino Mangaoang, 44, a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) personnel, of Aringay, La Union.

Lawmen found a caliber .99 Armscor pistol from the possession of Capurno.

The firearm was believed to be the one used by the suspects in shooting Arenos to death when they commandeered the vehicle.

Arenos sustained gunshot wounds in the right thigh and right side of his face and was declared dead on arrival at the Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City. PNA/
