LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — Four members of a robbery and hijacking syndicate operating in Central Luzon and Metro Manila were killed in a clash at 2a.m. Friday with members of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) and the local police along a road in Barangay Pao, Manaoag.
A report from Senior Supt. Ronald Oliver Lee, officer-in-charge of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, said the suspects, who are still unidentified, just held up a Centrum gasoline station in the outskirt of Manaoag when they ran into a checkpoint set up by the police and HPG along a road leading to the town of Laoac in the east.
Lee said the suspects opened fire on policemen manning the checkpoint, forcing the latter to return the fire which killed all those inside the vehicle.
Found by the police inside the car were three caliber 45 pistols, one cal. 38 revolver and a crowbar.
