CAMP DIEGO SILANG, La Union – Three motorcycle drivers were killed and a back rider was injured in separate road accidents in the towns of Bauang, San Juan, and Naguilian last Sunday.
Chief Inspector Silverio Ordinado, Jr., La Union’s police information officer, identified fatalities as Jeff Liares Cayanan, 21, of Central West, Bauang; John Loyd Baronia, 17, of Barangay Lioac, Naguilian; and
Edwin Dugdagan, of Sta. Maria, Ilocos Sur.
According to an investigation, Cayaman lost control of his motorbike and he and his back ride passenger Jeffrey Biason, 20, were thrown from the vehicle and landed on steel railings in Barangay Ballay in Bauang. Both were rushed to the Ilocos Regional Training Medical Center in San Fernando City, where Cayanan was declared dead-on-arrival. Biason suffered severe injuries and was treated and recovering at the same facility.
Boronia was also dead-on-arrival in a hospital in Naguilian where he was taken after he hit his head on a big flower when he lost control of his motorbike along the national road in Barangay Lioac this town in the early morning on Sunday.
Chief Inspector Cirilo Butigan, Naguilian police chief, said that the victim came from a birthday party drinking spree and was drunk at the time he met the accident. He was not wearing a helmet, he said.
In the case of Dugdugan, the motorcycle he was driving was hit by a pick-up truck along the national highway in Ili Norte, San Juan. He and his back ride passenger, Michael Esparaguza, also of Santa Maria, were rushed to a nearby hospital where Dugdugan was declared dead-on-arrival. Esparaguza was treated for injuries.
Based on an initial investigation by the San Juan police, the motorcycle was hit when its driver maneuvered around the truck driven by a certain Meyer Mula of Pasig City.
The truck driver is now under the custody of the San Juan Police Station pending the filing of court charges against him. Northbound Philippines News
