3 Dead, 25 Injured In La Union Road Accidents

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – Three persons were killed while 25 others were injured in two separate accidents involving passenger buses last Wednesday along the national highway in Balaoan and Agoo towns.

Police identified one of the fatalities as Rima Navor, 16, a resident of Barangay Bet-ang in Balaoan who was killed on the spot when a Partas Bus (AVY 752) bumped her while riding a motorcycle on her way home along the national road in Barangay San Pablo.

The victim suffered severe fractures and wounds on the different parts of her head and body.

In Barangay Sta. Fe in Agoo, two passengers were also killed on the spot when a Partas Bus (AEK 394) collided head-on with a Dominion Bus (UWL 843) at around 5:30 a.m. Thursday while 25 passengers, including the drivers and conductors of both buses, were injured and were brought to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Police identified the fatalities as Marlon Tumbaga, 43, and Rey Brioso, 23, a resident of San Antonio, Naguilian, La Union, and both passengers of Dominion bus.

The drivers were identified as Constantino Salarzon (Partas), 42, of Pilar, Abra, and Rodel Tara (Dominion), 43, of Sto. Domingo, Ilocos Sur.

Investigation showed that both vehicles were traveling on opposite direction when the Partas bus allegedly tried but failed to overtake another vehicle and bumped into the incoming Dominion bus.
