DINALUPIHAN, Bataan, Aug. 11 –Three jeepney passengers died while 16 others were injured in an early Friday morning head-on collision between a passenger jeepney and a 14-wheeler truck along the national highway here.
Police Chief Inspector Eduardo Guevarra, Dinalupihan police chief, identified the fatalities as Armand Dacayo, 43, of San Benito; Norma Sarmiento, 70, of Happy Valley, both in Dinalupihan; and Teresita Franco, 60, of Olongapo City.
Alfredo Santos, Jr., chairman of Barangay Luakan, Dinalupihan, described the accident that happened at 7 a.m. as very tragic.
“The truck overtook and hit the incoming passenger jeepney. All passengers that we were able to get out from the jeepney were bloody,” the village leader said.
PO3 Rafael Tiglao of the Dinalupihan police said the 14-wheeler truck was bound for Olongapo City when it collided with the incoming passenger jeepney.
Jeepney passengers Eddie Daguto and a certain Raella, a 17-year-old college student, said they lost consciousness. “We only got conscious when we were in the hospital,” they said.
Jeepney driver Ricky Mangalindan of Barangay Colo, Dinalupihan, a retired police officer, was among those badly hurt after being pinned by his steering wheel.
Dinalupihan Mayor Maria Angela “Gila” Garcia rushed to the hospitals to check the condition of victims.
Police said truck driver Reymon de Guzman of Porac, Pampanga faces a case for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and multiple injuries and damage to property. PNA-northboundasia.com
