CARRANGLAN, Nueva Ecija — Twenty six people are now confirmed dead when a passenger bus fell into a deep ravine in Barangay Capintalan here on Tuesday.

Senior Supt. Antonio Yarra, Nueva Ecija provincial police director, said the Leomarick bus which was carrying some 60 passengers came from Isabela province and was bound to Candon, Ilocos Sur when it fell into the ravine.
This new, confirmed information debunked earlier report from the field that a Robin bus was involved in the incident and that it was Manila-bound.
Yarra said the fatalities, including the bus driver, died on the spot.
He said that 20 others were injured and brought to different hospitals in Bayombong, Aritao, and Bambang towns in Nueva Vizcaya; and San Jose City and Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija.
“So far, rescue operations are underway and the investigation is ongoing,” Yarra said.
The police have yet to release the identities of the victims. Marilyn Galang/PNA with John Pigangay-northboundasia.com
