CEBU CITY — Around 250 triathletes are joining the National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) which is all set on Sunday at the Danao City Boardwalk, organizers said.
Oscar Rodriguez Jr., one of the organizers, said 150 will be joining the triathlon race and 100 are listed in the aquathlon competition.
The grassroots kids, who were part of the 2016 NationalGrassroots-Leg 2 Talent Identification Program last March 12 to 13, will put their learning to test as they take part on the aquathlon race of NAGT.
Rodriguez said they have put up the aquathlon race for the kids who do not have a racing bike yet.
“All the participants of the NAGT will be covered by Standard Insurance against accidents,” he said.
The course for the aquathlon race are 600-meter swim and three-kilometer run for the kids 16 to 19 years old; 400m swim and 2K run for kids 13 to 15 and 11 to 12; while 200m swim and 1K run for the kids in the 9 to 10 and 7 to 8 divisions.
On the other hand, the triathletes will battle it out in the sprint race which features 1K swim, 30K bike and 7.5K run.
The age group divisions are men’s 16 to 19, 20 to 24, 25 to 29, 30 to 34, 35 to 39, 40 to 44, 45 to 49, 50 to 54 and 55 & over.
While for the women’s are 13 to 15, 16 to 24, 25 to 35, 35 to 44 and 45 and over.
The overall champion in the sprint race will win Php5,000, Php3,000 for second place and Php2,000 for third place.
