CALASIAO, Pangasinan — At least 25 towns in the province are conducting free mass wedding ceremonies this love month of February.

According to Provincial Statistics Officer Edgar Norberte, Local Civil Registry Offices (LCROs) of a number of the municipalities and cities in Pangasinan have coordinated with their office regarding the conduct of mass wedding in their respective towns.

Norberte, head of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Pangasinan Provincial Office, added that a significant number of the towns have chosen to stage their mass wedding on Valentine’s Day or on February 14.

PSA Pangasinan listed the following towns and their respective dates of the mass wedding: Agno (Feb. 15); Aguilar (Feb. 24); Alaminos City (Feb. 14); Bani (Feb. 8); Binalonan (Feb. 12); Binmaley (Feb. 8); Bugallon (Feb. 25); Calasiao (Feb. 14); Dasol (Feb. 12); Infanta (Feb. 19); Manaoag (Feb. 22); Mangaldan (Feb. 27); Mangatarem (Feb. 12); Mapandan (Feb. 26); Natividad (Feb. 14); Rosales (Feb. 25); San Fabian (Feb. 21-26); San Jacinto (Feb. 27); San Manuel (Feb. 9); San Nicolas (Feb. 14); Sison (Feb. 12); Sta. Barbara (Feb. 18); Sta. Maria (Feb. 14); Sual (Feb. 14); and Tayug (Feb. 12).

The City of San Carlos has set its mass wedding on March 3.

Norberte noted the mass wedding is part of the PSA Pangasinan’s observance of the Civil Registration Month this February.

Anchored on the theme, “Makiisa…Makisali sa Dekadang CRVS (Civil Registration and Vital Statistics),” the celebration is in consonance with the global advocacy of getting everyone registered and of promoting awareness on the importance of civil registration in the lives of every Filipino, said Norberte.

He noted that the PSA’s target for the 2015-2024 period is to gather a 100 percent registration of the citizenry on birth, marriage, and death.

“At present, we only have about 90 percent of the population who registered,” he said as he noted the importance of civil registration such as in employment, among other purposes.

Meanwhile, other activities for this year’s celebration, in partnership with the LCRO of different towns, include mobile registrations, conduct of charitable activities, and free issuance of certifications.

The free issuance of certification is set from Feb. 12 to 19 to commemorate the National Birth Registration Day on Feb. 23 or on Feb. 27 to celebrate the Civil Registration Day. PNA/northboundasia.com
