Over 2,000 families displaced by ‘Karen’ in Aurora

BALER, Aurora — Some 8,377 individuals or 2,503 families were affected by typhoon ‘Karen’ which made landfall in this capital town at 2:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the Aurora Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).

Engineer Amado Elson A. Egargue, PDRRMO chief , said that the figure is only partial as they are still waiting for the reports coming from the eight towns in this province, namely Baler, San Luis, Maria Aurora, Dipaculao, Dingalan, Dinalungan, Casiguran and Dilasag.

Of this fugure, Egargue said some 7,702 persons or 2,273 families are now in the evacuation centers from the different municipalities.

As of this moment, the province is still experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall.

The entire province remains without electric power since Saturday night.

Major roads in Villa Aurora-Bongabon, Nueva Ecija national road and national road going to northern Aurora towns of Dinalungan, Casiguran and Dilasag are still impassable.

“Northern Aurora is not passable due to Ditale spillway that overflows and the only passable is Baler-Canili going to Pantabangan,” Egargue said.

Monitoring is still on going in every barangay in the province to assess the total damage to agricultural crops, fisheries, infrastructures. Jason de Asis/PNA-northboundasia.com
