CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela — At least 20 village heads are running unopposed while 20 others gave up their election bids in Ilagan City as the Commission on Elections wrapped up the extension of candidacy filing on Saturday.
Lawyer Jerbee Anthony Cortez, Comelec assistant regional director and Ilagan City acting election officer, said that aside from the unopposed, at least 2,900 bets have filed for barangay chairs or councilors, while 1,232 others have filed for Sangguniang Kabataan heads or council members.
Last-minute filer Ernel Absuela, 39, said he was among those unopposed as their two-term village chief Joseph Uy did not seek reelection in Sta. Isabel Sur, Ilagan City.
“He should be running for his last term but he decided to be back in private service and endorsed me,” Absuela said.
Isabela provincial election supervisor Manuel Castillo said a few candidates filed their certificates of candidacy in the last minute. Bill Visaya/PNA-northboundasia.com
