2 soldiers killed, 4 hurt in Apayao road mishap

MANILA — Two soldiers were killed while four others were hurt after the truck they were riding accidentally fell from a 10-meter ravine in Calasanan, Apayao province on Tuesday afternoon.

Reports forwarded Friday by Major Gen. Lysander Suerte, 5th Infantry Division commander of the Philippine Army, said the incident took place at 4:30 p.m.

The fatalities, all from the 5th Infantry Division, were identified as Pvt. Venerando Paul Kennedy Angeles and Technical Sgt. Alberto Agustin.

The injured soldiers were identified as Capt. Joel Dingle, Sgt. Joel Belo, Cpl. Fresco Zalun, Jr., and Pvt. Vladimir Valdez, also from the 5th Infantry Division.

“Our soldiers were performing their duties at the time of incident. The command’s priorities are to take care of their welfare and that of their families. The dead shall be laid to rest with full honors. We shall take care of those injured, and ensure that they get the best medical treatment and care,” Suerte said.
