COTABATO CITY – Police nabbed two suspects on Thursday for allegedly shooting a man in Kalamansig town, Sultan Kudarat province.
Chief Supt. Eliseo Tam Rasco, director of Police Regional Office 12 (Soccsksargen), identified the suspects as Alimar Kalaing, 18, and Samsudin Tabunaway, 25, both of Barangay Laguitan, Datu Blah Sinsuat, Maguindanao.
Rasco said the suspects, for still unknown reasons, shot and wounded Fahad Mokamad, 26, of Barangay Paril, Kalamansig.
Police investigation revealed that the victim was walking in Sitio Mabancao, Barangay Paril, at about 5:30 p.m. when he was fired upon by the motorcycle-riding suspects.
Mokamad, who sustained bullet wounds in both legs, managed to dive for cover at a bushy section of the road following the shooting. His attackers sped off after the incident.
Concerned villagers reported the matter to police authorities, who in turn set up checkpoints along strategic sections of Kalamansig.
“The suspects were later arrested in Barangay Cadiz of the same town,” Rasco said. Seized from them were a 9-mm. pistol and the Kawasaki motorbike (MA-19273) used as the getaway vehicle.
The victim later identified the suspects as his attackers through the mugshot photos presented to him by authorities at the Lebak Family Doctor’s Hospital in Lebak, Sultan Kudarat.
Charges are being readied against the suspects who are detained at the Kalamansig police station lock-up. Noel Punzalan/PNA-northboundasia.com
