CEBU CITY — Two persons were arrested for violation of the election gun ban in a checkpoint in Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City shortly after midnight on Sunday.
Police identified the two as Arturo Ybanez and Virgilio Ngujo, who were each arrested for possession of a .38 cal. Revolver.
The two are now detained at the Mabolo Police Station in Cebu City pending the filing of proper charges against them.
Simulataneous checkpoints were conducted in Central Visayas shortly after midnight Sunday after the gun ban imposed by the Commission on Election for the 2016 national and local elections took effect.
Chief Superintedent Manuel Gaerlan, Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 director, warned police personnel in the region that only those who are on duty and in proper uniform are allowed to bring their firearms.
Members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines are also allowed to carry their firearms if they in proper uniform and are on duty.
Cebu Provincial Election Supervisor Lionel Marco Castillano also warned gun owners not to bring their firearms outside of their residence even if these firearms are licensed.
Castillano said permits to carry firearms outside of place of residence were automatical suspended after the gun ban took effect on Sunday. PNA / northboundasia.com
