2 FORMER INC MINISTERS FACE LIBEL SUITS

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – The head of Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) in La Union together with officers of the INC’s Society of Communicators and Network, International filed two separate cases of libel suits yesterday at the prosecutor’s office here against two expelled INC ministers.

Bro. Jeremias Mendoza Jr, INC supervising minister, filed charges of libel and unjust vexation against former INC minister Joy Yuson for his alleged damaging statements in an interview aired over radio DZMM last July 24 and at his website https//joselakas.wordpress.com.

Mendoza claimed that Yuson maligned him and other INC officials in his interview with DZMM’s anchor Karen Davila and on his internet post.

“The claim of Mr. Yuson in his write-up was just his inventions. This serious and malicious accusation has brought destruction on my reputation as respected minister. The malicious and criminal accusation against me by Yuson has intent to destroy me in public, embarrass and injure my family,” reads part of Mendoza’s affidavit in Filipino.

Mark Macagba and Rey Ancheta, officers of SCAN- La Union chapter, filed libel complaint against expelled INC minister Lowell Menorca II for calling SCAN as an “armed group and being used as hit squad.”

The SCAN officers claimed Menorca’s damaging statement was aired last Oct. 28 at ABS-CBN in an interview by Henry Omaga Diaz.

According to the officers, SCAN is a government-registered organization aimed for good purposes such as conducting socio-civic activities on communications, news reporting, public assistance, first-aid, tree planting, disaster and relief operations, among others. JUN ELIAS/NorthboundPH
