2 die, 5 hurt in Pangasinan highway mishap

URDANETA CITY — Two persons including a barangay captain of Echague, Isabela died and five others were hurt when the van they were riding in bumped into a mango tree along MacArthur Highway here.

Barangay Captain Aurelio Baracao, 52, of Malibago, Echague, Isabela, who was driving the Mitsubishi Montero (AAB 6942), was proclaimed dead-on-arrival at the Urdaneta Sacred Heart Hospital, while his companion Justin Mariano, 21, expired while undergoing treatment.

Hurt were Violeta Baracao, also of Malibago, Echague Isabela; Elizabeth Bayan, 52, Teodora Maria Cortez, 48, Amara Jane Cortez, 20, and Niko Cortez, 13, all residents of Barangay San Miguel, Ramon, Isabela. They were also brought to the Urdaneta Sacred Heart Hospital for medical treatment.

Initial police investigation showed that the vehicle was traversing from west to east direction when it bumped into a mango tree on the road side. PNA/northboundasia.com
