2 bullet-riddled bodies found at rice field in Antique town

SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique — The bodies of a man and a 19-year-old woman, bearing gunshot wounds, were found on a rice field in Sibalom town, Antique province Friday morning.

In a media interview, Sibalom Municipal Police chief, Senior Insp. Adolfo Pagharion, said they were notified of the discovery of the two bodies in Sitio Kasagingan, Barangay Cubay at about 6 a.m.

Police later identified the victims as Atila John Plameras Villavert alias Rambo, 32, of Cerdena St. here; and Nicki Ann Bangcaya Latuga, 19, of Bongsod, Sibalom town.

“The couple was processed by the Antique Provincial Police Office SOCO (Scene of the Crime Operation), (and) were found to have (suffered) multiple gunshot wounds,” Pagharion said.

Based on their investigation, he said residents near the crime scene heard gunshots between 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m. of July 20, but they discovered the cadavers only five hours later, prompting them to call their barangay (village) captain.

Pagharion said they are still trying to determine the suspects or persons of interest and the motive in the incident.

He said that in 2015, police operatives arrested Latuga and her then live-in partner for illegal drugs.

The police official said Latuga’s live-in partner has been detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology here.

Latuga, who was only about 17 years old and pregnant at that time, was not included in the filing of the case.

Meanwhile, Pagharion described the incident as an isolated case that happened in the municipality. Annabel Consuelo Petinglay/PNA-northboundasia.com
