2 blast fishers arrested in Pangasinan town

SAN FABIAN, Pangasinan — Two blast fishers were arrested and six improvised bottles of dynamites were seized when the San Fabian police implemented search warrants simultaneously in their respective houses in Barangay Nibaliw Narvarte here on Tuesday.

Chief Inspector Arvin Jacob, chief of police of San Fabian town, said the two suspects had long been placed under surveillance due to rampant blast fishing activities in the Lingayen Gulf near San Fabian.

The search warrants in the houses of the two, including another fisherman who is still unidentified were issued by Regional Trial Judge Ellen Aguilar of Branch 70 in Burgos town.

Arrested were Boyet Salcedo, 46, from whose house lawmen found two improvised bottles of dynamites and Jayson Imbornal, 46, from whose house the raiders found four bottles of improvised dynamite, two of which had blasting caps.

The police tagged the two and other fishermen from adjacent La Union who are still unidentified as allegedly responsible for the resurgence of blast fishing activities in the Lingayen Gulf.

Both suspects are now under investigation preparatory to the filing of cases against them for violation of Presidential Decree No. 1866 or the unlawful manufacture, sales, acquisition, disposition or possession of explosives. Leonardo Micua/PNA-northboundasia.com
